UTAH CITY, Utah (April 21, 2025) – Utah City, a mixed-use development in Vineyard, is following up on its Greening of Utah City initiative by planting 1,000 trees as part of phase one of the 700-acre masterplan development. The Arbor Day celebration will run from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25th and is open to the public. Guests will enjoy food trucks, music, hear from city leaders and can participate in the ceremonial planting of trees.

“Planting trees is just one example of the long-term, enduring approach we’re taking to building Utah City,” said Nate Hutchinson, co-managing partner for Flagship Homes. “By integrating trees and thoughtful landscaping from the very beginning, we’re setting the tone for a city that grows in balance with nature and creates a beautiful place for those who visit and call Utah City home. It’s very beautiful”

Utah City’s planting strategy includes a carefully selected mix of drought-tolerant, pollinator-friendly species suited for Utah’s unique climate. Varieties such as Ruby Sunset Maples, Emerald Sunshine, Elms, Prairie Gold, Quaking Aspens, and Norwegian Sunset Maples will line the city’s residential streets, The Greenline Promenade, and other key corridors—providing shade, biodiversity, and a strong visual identity for the growing community. The effort to rebuild natural habitats with drought-friendly and pollinator-supporting trees helps to increase climate resilience and promote long-term environmental health. Utah Valley University students in Dr. Ashley N. Egan’s Spring 2021 Conservation Biology class teamed up with Bronson Tatton of Utah City to create some of the native plant palettes and suggested plants suitable for use along the Utah City greenspaces. The class also developed plans for creating areas along the greenway that capture the native plant diversity of particular ecosystems – from alpine and foothills plant communities to riparian lake habitat.

“As plans for the Utah City greenspaces evolve, we are excited to see what native plants will grace these spaces, said Dr. Ashley Egan, Professor of Biology at UVU. “To have contributed to this effort through community-engaged learning and partnerships has been very exciting for me and my students and we look forward to seeing it all come to life.”

“We believe in creating places that last,” said Jeff Woodbury, senior vice president of development and acquisitions for Woodbury Corporation. “Planting thousands of mature trees in the Utah City development reflects our values and the responsibility we have to be good stewards of the land we’re building on.”

Event Information
The event is open to the public and runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Members of the media are encouraged to attend between 5 and 6 p.m. to hear from speakers discussing how the trees will serve as a natural outline to many of the development’s key features and their role in restoring local ecosystems.
Speakers at the event include:

  • Bronson Tatton, Utah City Landscape Architect
  • George Schramm, Vineyard City Arborist
  • Jerrek Boss, OJB Landscape Architecture
  • Julie Fullmer, Mayor of Vineyard

The first 100 attendees will receive a tree sapling to take home, offering a way for residents to grow alongside Utah City. Giveaways and community updates will also be shared by Bella’s Market, the city’s upcoming full-service grocery store.

“Our growing city is already a designated USA Tree City, reflecting our commitment to high-quality, thoughtful development,” said Mayor Julie Fullmer, “It’s encouraging to see the developers of Utah City continue to invest in urban forestry. The trees planted here will enhance economic opportunity, add natural beauty, improve livability, and contribute to the long-term health of our city for generations to come.”

In addition to the landscaping efforts, phase one of The Greenline Promenade—Utah City’s central linear park—will include an all-abilities play area and flexible event lawns designed for year-round programming. The first phase of The Greenline is scheduled to open to the public in summer 2025
